This is the homepage for the Material Programming Research Project, a collaboration between researchers at UAL’s Chelsea College of Arts and Creative Computing Institute.
We are working with and on new open-source programming tools for the development of knitted textiles. We’re interested in working with domestic and semi-industrial machines, malleable textile design software, and researchers and practicioners across industry and academia.
For Spring and Summer 2026, we are running a series of research talks on knitting technology, and workshops with students on making and using open-source knitting software.
If any of the above sounds interesting to you, please get in touch.
